Overview
The Wise Mind Institute is a training and treatment center based on core values of wisdom, compassion, and mindfulness. We have locations in Redwood City and Berkeley, CA where we offer comprehensive Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT, DBT-A) and Radically Open Dialectical Behavior Therapy (RO-DBT) as well as multiple other modalities. Our postdoctoral program is centered on two primary areas of focus, namely building competency in Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) and growing the necessary skills to launch a private practice

Emphasis: Comprehensive DBT
Our clinical heartbeat is based in DBT, not only in terms of the programs we offer, but also in terms of our philosophy and practice as a team and organization. DBT principles such as non-judgment and effectiveness deeply guide and inform us in our interactions with each other, our clinical interventions, and our own personal development. Trainees get a deep dive into DBT by participating in a foundational training through Behavioral Tech, Inc, sitting on a consultation team, teaching DBT skills classes, and working with individual clients using a comprehensive DBT framework. Significant support is provided through individual supervision, group supervision, and a highly supportive team of seasoned clinicians committed to excellence and having fun!

Emphasis: Business Skillset
The second area of emphasis in our program is specific training in professional and business skills to successfully launch a private practice or small group practice. Many clinicians on the WMI team completed graduate school with minimal orientation to some of the essential nuts and bolts of building and maintaining a practice. As a result, we have gained a wealth of knowledge in this area and have built a significant portion of the WMI postdoc training program around growing these necessary skills in a scaffolded manner such that trainees are able to move directly into launching their practice following completion of the program.
