Comprehensive Psychological Assessment

ASSESSMENT CLINIC

Psychological Assessment

A deeper understanding of how you think, feel, and function is one of the most meaningful steps you can take toward lasting wellbeing.

If you've been navigating uncertainty - about a diagnosis, about why certain things feel harder than they should, or about what's really going on beneath the surface - a thorough psychological assessment can offer the clarity you've been seeking.

Our assessment program is grounded in the same values that guide all of our work at WMI: evidence-based methods, depth of assessment about each person's unique presentation, and a deep commitment to your long-term holistic wellbeing. We specialize in complex cases and nuanced presentations — the kind of careful, integrated evaluation that leads to real answers and a meaningful path forward.

OVERVIEW

What is psychological assessment?

Psychological assessment is a structured evaluation that goes deeper than a screening questionnaire or a single clinical interview. Through a carefully selected battery of standardized tests, a comprehensive clinical interview, and a thorough review of your history, we build a complete picture of how you think, feel, and function - and why.

Our assessments use gold-standard validated measures, interpreted in the full context of your history and presentation to generate a clinically rigorous and practically useful report.

Assessment vs. therapy - Where therapy focuses on ongoing treatment and personal growth over time, assessment provides a precise, evidence-based diagnosis and a clear set of recommendations and resources.

WHEN TO CONSIDER ASSESSMENT

Signs assessment might be right for you

An evaluation can be valuable when you notice persistent difficulties that are affecting important areas of your life — even if you can't quite name what's going on.

Work & Career

Difficulty completing tasks, low performance despite real effort, trouble focusing, disorganization, or struggling to meet expectations that feel manageable to others.

Daily Functioning

Trouble managing time, keeping up with responsibilities, following through on plans, or maintaining routines that others seem to handle without difficulty.

Cognitive Functioning

Memory concerns, difficulty concentrating, processing speed, trouble with planning or multitasking, or noticing changes in how your mind works.

Emotional Wellbeing

Persistent mood difficulties, anxiety, withdrawal, low motivation, or emotional patterns that feel hard to understand or change — even with support.

Relationships

Difficulty sustaining relationships, misunderstandings in communication, social exhaustion, or feedback from others that feels confusing or inconsistent with how you see yourself.

Documentation Needs

Requiring formal documentation for workplace accommodations, academic settings, disability determinations, or medication decisions.

WHO WE SERVE

Who this is for

  • Adults who suspect ADHD, Autism Spectrum Disorder, a mood disorder, or another condition — but have never received a clear, confident diagnosis

  • Those who've received a diagnosis that doesn't fully fit, or have been told conflicting things by different providers

  • High-functioning adults struggling in ways that don't yet have a name

  • People who need formal documentation for workplace accommodations, disability considerations, or medication decisions

  • Anyone wanting a deeper understanding of their cognitive strengths, emotional patterns, and how they can be better supported

No referral needed

You don't need a referral from a doctor or therapist to pursue a psychological assessment. Many people come to us directly, based on their own concerns.

If you're already working with a therapist or psychiatrist, we're glad to coordinate with them to make the evaluation as useful as possible.

A WMI ADVANTAGE

Assessment and Therapy, Together

Most assessment clinics operate independently from ongoing therapy. At The Wise Mind Institute, our assessment team works directly alongside our clinical team — which means your evaluation can flow seamlessly into treatment.

From insight to action-

If therapy is recommended following your assessment, we can connect you with a WMI clinician who already understands your profile — no need to start from scratch.

Coordinated care-

If you're already a WMI therapy client, your assessment findings can be shared directly with your therapist to deepen and inform your ongoing work.

One team, one approach -

Our assessors and therapists share a common clinical language and values, creating continuity you won't find at a standalone testing center.

HOW IT WORKS

The Process

Every assessment follows a structured, collaborative process designed to be thorough, clear, and respectful of your time.

Initial Consultation

~20 min, complimentary. We discuss your concerns, clarify the referral question, and determine the right program for you.

Scoring & Interpretation

Results are analyzed in the full context of your history and presentation — never in isolation.

Clinical Interview

90–120 min. An in-depth conversation covering your personal, medical, educational, and psychiatric history.

Written Report

A detailed, clinically rigorous report with diagnostic findings and personalized recommendations.

Testing

3–6 hours, often across multiple sessions. A carefully selected battery of gold-standard assessments tailored to your referral question.

Feedback Session

50 min. Together, we review findings together, answer your questions, and discuss next steps.

A NOTE ON SCOPE

What our assessments don’t replace

Our program is a comprehensive psychological assessment — rigorous, evidence-based, and appropriate for the vast majority of adult diagnostic questions. It differs from a full neuropsychological assessment, which is typically recommended following traumatic brain injury, stroke, suspected dementia, or other acute neurological conditions.

If your concerns fall into that category, we'll help connect you with the right specialist.

COMMON QUESTIONS

Frequently Asked Questions

Is testing stressful?

Most people find the process more interesting than stressful. The tests aren't like school exams — they're designed to understand how you think and experience the world. Sessions are conversational and conducted at a measured pace.

Can assessment help me get workplace or academic accommodations?

Yes. A formal evaluation from a licensed psychologist provides the documentation typically required for accommodations such as extended time, modified schedules, or adjusted environments.

What if the results are different from what I expected?

It happens, and it's something we take seriously. The feedback session gives you space to process findings and leave with a clear sense of what they mean for your path forward. Our goal is to make the findings genuinely useful to you.

How is this different from an evaluation I might get elsewhere?

Our assessments go beyond a brief screener or intake questionnaire. We use gold-standard measures selected specifically for your needs, interpreted in the full context of your history, resulting in a clinically rigorous report, not a checklist.

Can you identify more than one condition at once?

Yes. Many people seek assessment precisely because their experience doesn't fit neatly into one category. Our evaluations are designed to capture the full picture — including overlapping or co-occurring conditions.

What should I do to prepare?

There's no special preparation needed. It helps to come ready to discuss your history and the concerns that brought you in. Prior evaluation records or relevant medical history can add useful context.
